The increased 'sophistication of today's manufacturing processes requires that the workforce be highly educated and equipped with a wide variety of skills. Increased emphasis on automation requires specific worker skills to operate and maintain equipment. Modern manufacturing processes like just-in-time (JIT) also require a well-educated workforce. As an illustration, the significant growth of business in Singapore in recent years can be attributed, in large part, to the investment of its government in educating and training its population.
